May 14 – 17: Professor Wang Canfa, CLAPV Director, at the invitation of National Taipei University (NPTU), participated in its Across the Strait Environmental Law Academic Conference. The conference discussed two topics: “Relief and Public Interest Litigation for Environmental Harms and Damages” and “Confronting Global Environmental Challenges and Solutions: Evaluating the Impact of Climate Change as Example.” Professor Wang Canfa, delivering the first talk of the conference, gave a lecture entitled “Environmental Damages and Compensation and Public Interest Litigation in Mainland China,” which was received with great interest by the conference attendees.
Professor Hou Chung-Weun, President of NPTU; Chief Justice Lai In-Jaw, President of the Judicial Yuan; and Chang Tzu-Ching, Director of Taiwan’s Environmental Protection Administration attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Taiwan’s Constitutional Court Justice Professor Chen Shin-Min, former Justice Professor Liao Yi-nan, and Supreme Administrative Court Judge Professor Peng Feng-lan moderated lectures and roundtable discussions. NPTU’s Professors Chen Lan-yang and Lin Ming-Chiang, Taipei Normal University’s Professor Kuo Li-zhen, and over ten other professors attended the conference and gave lectures as well. Also present were academics, experts, lawyers, and students of National Taipei University and other institutions.
During the conference, Professor Wang Canfa and NPTU’s Professor Chen Tsi-yang discussed plans for improving dialogue across the strait between environmental legal academics.
